OVERVIEW
EDUCATION

MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, AIMS supports bright African youth especially those facing the highest social and economic barriers to opportunity with access to world class education in mathematical sciences, leadership, and work integrated learning experiences that prepare them to lead change across the continent.

MASTER’S IN MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES
AIMS offers an intensive one-year Structured Master’s degree in Mathematical Sciences in partnership with the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The Program is delivered by world-leading scientists and educators, ensuring training of the highest international standard.

CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Co-operative (Co-op) Education Program which leads to the AIMS Master’s in Mathematical Sciences was piloted at AIMS Senegal in 2015 and is now equally offered at AIMS Cameroon and AIMS Rwanda. Building on the core structured Master’s, the 18-month co-op Program allows students to apply their scientific knowledge to real-world problems and to transition from academic studies to gainful employment.
RESEARCH

RESEARCH FOCUS AREAS
Research across the AIMS Network is driven by a vibrant community of Research Chairs, Lead Scientists, postdoctoral fellows and doctoral researchers drawn from Africa and around the world. Together, they advance frontier research in the mathematical sciences while strengthening Africa’s scientific leadership and global collaborations.

PHD PROGRAMS
AIMS supports doctoral training through structured PhD pathways embedded within its research centres and in collaboration with African and international partner universities. PhD candidates work under the supervision of Research Chairs and affiliated faculty, contributing to ongoing research projects while developing advanced expertise in specialised fields of the mathematical sciences.

QUANTUM LEAP AFRICA (QLA)
Quantum Leap Africa (QLA) is a centre of scientific research excellence at the leading edge of information science and technology.
OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT

MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS GIVEBACK ACTIVITIES
Across Africa, AIMS Centres are deeply committed to sharing knowledge beyond the classroom and inspiring curiosity in the mathematical sciences. Each of the six AIMS centres prides itself on delivering public engagement and outreach activities that reflect its unique context, community needs and local strengths.

GENDER-RESPONSIVE STEM ACTIVITIES
Promoting gender equity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is central to the AIMS mission. Across the Network, Centres organise targeted programmes that encourage girls and young women to pursue mathematics and science.

TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMS
Recognising that teachers are critical multipliers of impact, AIMS Centres run professional development programmes to strengthen mathematics and science instruction in schools.
