Overview
AIMS offers an intensive one-year Structured Master’s degree in Mathematical Sciences in partnership with the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The Program is delivered by world-leading scientists and educators, ensuring training of the highest international standard.
Our Approach
All admitted students receive full or partial scholarships covering tuition, study materials, and accommodation. AIMS’ fully residential model allows for close interaction between students, lecturers, and tutors beyond the limits of a traditional university setting.
Students study two subjects every three weeks, with morning lectures followed by afternoon problem-solving and computing sessions. Evening tutorials and special lectures further deepen learning. Courses are taught by outstanding visiting lecturers from leading institutions worldwide, supported by dedicated postdoctoral and doctoral tutors who provide continuous academic support.
The Curriculum
The Program is delivered over three semesters:
Skills and Courses Phase
A compulsory phase focused on foundational and core concepts, designed to achieve clearly defined learning outcomes.
Review Courses Phase
Students select two out of three courses per time slot, completing a total of twelve. Courses span mathematics, physics, and interdisciplinary areas such as computer science, biomathematics, and financial mathematics.
Essay Phase
During an eight-week research project, students work closely with a supervisor on a substantial topic. The phase culminates in a written essay, often of publishable quality, and an oral defence, followed by graduation.
The Program is student-centred and academically rigorous, with a strong emphasis on scientific computing. Instruction is delivered in English, and students are encouraged to strengthen their computing and typing skills ahead of the Program.
