Charles Boamah is a globally respected finance executive with over four decades of senior leadership experience in Africa and internationally. He previously served as Senior Vice President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), where he played a central role in shaping the institution’s strategic and operational direction.
During his tenure at the AfDB, Mr. Boamah also held the positions of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Acting First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He championed major institutional reforms, including organizational restructuring, business process re-engineering to enhance efficiency, strengthened business continuity frameworks, and expanded decentralization of the Bank’s operations.
He was actively involved in significant resource mobilization efforts, contributing to three general capital increases and seven replenishments of the African Development Fund under three successive AfDB Presidents. His leadership was instrumental in strengthening the Bank’s financial sustainability and operational effectiveness.
Prior to joining the AfDB, Mr. Boamah spent 12 years with First Interstate Bancorp in California, which later merged with Wells Fargo Bank. He began his professional career with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).
Mr. Boamah currently serves on the boards of Africa50, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), and the Design & Technology Institute (DTI Ghana).
