In Africa's Youth,
the Future of Science
AIMS is a pan-African network of Institutes of Excellence for postgraduate training and research in Mathematical Sciences and Public Engagement in STEM

The AIMS Approach
Responsibility-first education
At AIMS, scientific training begins with responsibility. Students are selected not only for academic excellence, but for their readiness to apply knowledge to real-world challenges and societal progress.
Rigorous academic model
Programs are intentionally intensive and fast-paced, reflecting the demands of advanced research and innovation. This rigour prepares graduates for doctoral studies and high-impact roles across sectors.
Pan-African collaboration
AIMS brings together students and faculty from across Africa and the global scientific community. This diversity strengthens learning, collaboration, and long-term scientific networks.

Mission
To empower talented young Africans to be creative leaders in science and technology.
Vision
A prosperous Africa, propelled by innovative education and Mathematical Sciences.
WHY AIMS
Established in 2003, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is Africa’s first and largest network of centres of excellence for innovative post- graduate training in mathematical sciences. We enable Africa’s youth to shape the continent’s future through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, public engagement and research. We have five institutes of excellence in South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Rwanda and a Research and Innovation Centre in Rwanda.
Innovative Scientific Training: Cultivating human capital to drive growth and development.
Technological Advances & Cutting-Edge Discoveries: Pushing the boundaries of scientific progress.
Public Engagement: Actively contributing to Africa’s scientific emergence and global presence.

IMPACT AND OUTCOMES
AIMS graduates contribute to research institutions, universities, industry, and public-sector organizations across Africa and worldwide. Alumni pursue doctoral studies, lead research initiatives, and apply scientific expertise to address complex systems and societal needs. This impact reflects AIMS’ long-term commitment to building scientific leadership for Africa.
